Forgiveness - God Will Help You

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him (1 John 5:14-15 NIV).
" This is one of the most encouraging verses in the Bible! God promises that any prayer request in accordance with His will will be answered.
It's certainly more encouraging than those other verses where God promises to torture us if we fail to forgive others (Matthew 18:21-35).
But all Scriptures go together, as I learned in a recent painful incident.
Someone had offended me and I suffered for days with unforgiveness.
I talked with another Christian who suggested that I pray for God to change my heart toward the person who had offended me.
I heard the words but somehow it didn't register.
I just assumed that God really wouldn't provide any help.
That forgiveness is simply an act of the will and that was that.
Boy was I wrong! Several days later, I was again in pain and called that same person back.
She asked: "Did you ask God to change your heart.
" I said no.
She related how she had suffered for years--over a more serious offense--and that God had delivered her simply as a result of her asking God to give her a heart of compassion.
In her case, many prayers were required for her deliverance.
Still in pain, I was now willing to listen! And I prayed with her for God to change my heart.
And He did! I felt immediate relief.
Remember that God is willing to answer your prayers.
He is willing to help you forgive so you don't need to be disciplined.
So you don't need to suffer.
